Directors: The STA Student
Directors shall be comprised of a
student who have had experience providing technical assistance to faculty,
staff, and students. The
duties of the director include the developing and recording of STA strategies,
goals, and objectives, interacting with I.T.S. and other campus groups,
meeting with the coordinator each semester, meeting with active managers
monthly, selecting and hiring STA managers and consultants, implementing external and internal
training opportunities, ensuring that the work of STA is successfully
completed, and any other work deemed necessary to fulfill the goals of
STA. Managers: The
working managers shall be comprised of STA students that have demonstrated
dedication, innovation, competence and a genuine interest in providing
technical assistance to the Alfred University faculty, staff and students. The four managers shall be responsible
for different areas. These
areas are: Helpdesk, Tier 2, Computer Labs, and the Web team.
Different specific duties will fall on each of these individuals,
but the general duties shall include development of work schedules, suggestions
for training, interaction with student workers, worker performance reviews, maintaining supply inventories,
interviewing STA applicants and any other duties deemed necessary. The working managers shall meet with
the program directors monthly to maintain communication and work to expand
the STA Program. Consultants: The consultants consist of all the STA's who work in the labs, at the Helpdesk, as Tier 2's, and with the web team. They also help our staff take care of the important day to day workloads. We consider them to be the backbone of the STA program. Helpdesk Manager: The Helpdesk Manager directly assists the Helpdesk staff in maintaining the productivity of the I.T.S. Helpdesk and coordinating any STA consultants assigned to the Helpdesk. The manager will create work schedules, represent the needs of the Helpdesk at the monthly meetings, and work to resolve problems that arise at the Helpdesk. In addition to these duties, the Helpdesk Manager is also in charge of training Helpdesk staff to work this area. Helpdesk Consultant: A Helpdesk Consultant will staff the Helpdesk. They will answer questions and solve problems either in-person, through email, on site, or over the telephone. Problems that cannot be answered immediately will be passed along to the appropriate person (tier). This position requires good computing skills but most importantly excellent communication and customer service skills. You must have the ability to listen carefully, express ideas clearly, and converse comfortably with a stranger. You must also be patient and empathetic to others issues and concerns. You are expected to ask questions when you are in doubt, or when you do not know or understand a procedure. At times, you could be asked to perform tasks beyond consulting. Tier 2 Manager: The Tier 2 Manager works to help students, faculty and staff take full advantage of Alfred Universitys information technology. The Manager will also support the Helpdesk as much as possible with install/troubleshooting issues and represent the Tier 2 section at the monthly management meeting. Tier 2 Consultant: Tier 2 STA's will work directly with the Helpdesk and the Tier 2 Manager. You will troubleshoot and in some instances repair computers and printers on campus. Your work hours will consist of appointments for on-site consultations along with other duties as assigned. Lab Manager: The Lab Manager will work to develop consultant schedules, manage lab supplies, make sure your consultants are keeing the labs clean and presentable, request or provide hardware support, and represent the lab section of STA at the biweekly meetings. The Lab Manager is expected to assist in the training of the Lab Consultants. Finally, the Lab Manager represents the Alfred University Lab Managers and Consultants at the biweekly Exec Board meeting. Lab Consultant: A Lab Consultant is responsible
for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the campus computer
labs. In addition to this, a Lab Consultant is expected
to communicate the current condition of their labs to the STA Lab Manager on a regular basis. They also are required
to attend a biweekly meeting with the Lab Manager. A Lab Consultant will assure that their assigned lab is fully functional. This includes cleaning the computer labs and equipment, loading printers with paper and toner, and notifying the Lab Coordinator of any problems in the lab or supplies needed. ITS Partners: I.T.S. Partners work directly with I.T.S. staff to perform numerous tasks including networking, web design and maintenance, systems operation, and clerical work. If you are interested in working for one of the I.T.S. staff members, please contact the staff member and introduce yourself. They will consider you for a job only if they have an opening available. WEB TEAM DIRECTOR: Web Team Director: The Web team director shall be comprised of a web team student that has demonstrated dedication, innovation, competence and a genuine interest in providing assistance to the web team. The director shall be responsible for all web areas. These areas are: Programming/Database Administration and Editing/Proofing. Different specific duties will fall on each area, but the general duties shall include working with the Webmaster and the Web Application Developer in developing web team strategies, responsible for delegation and completion of tasks and projects assigned to the student web team interaction with student workers, hiring student workers, internal and external training opportunities, writing documentation when required by the project and checking and co-signing of time sheets. The director shall meet with team members monthly to maintain communication and work to expand the web team. They will also take part in the bi-weekly STA meetings in order to maintain communication and functionality with the rest of the organization. WEB PROGRAMMER: Web Programmer works on a variety of programs/databases. This will include creating, maintaining and trouble shooting applications. All applications must be documented. If problems arise you need to inform the Web Team Programmer Manager. WEB EDITIING/DESIGN TEAM: An Editor/Designer duties may include creation and editing of sites/pages and making the site ADA compliant. All pages must follow the style guidelines and have proof of ADA compliancy. If problems arise you need to inform the Web Team Editing/Design Manager. WEB PROOFER: A Proofers duties may include proofing sites/pages, testing applications and checking/making sure the site is ADA compliant, as well following the style guidelines. If problems arise you need to inform the Web Team Editing/Design Manager. |
