Alfred University Dance is Nationally Recognized at The American College Dance Festival
March 12, 2007
Dancers from Alfred University participated in the American College Dance Festival in Buffalo along with dance programs throughout the North East region. AU senior Mercedes Albrecht's dance piece Redress was chosen, from among many pieces that were presented throughout the week, to perform in the prestigious Gala performance that closed the festival. The dance pieces chosen for the Gala were selected by three professional choreographers from New York City. Competing for this honor were pieces created not only by dance majors and faculty members from large institutions, but also by professional Guest Artists brought into those institutions to create work on students.
Mercedes' dancers included herself along with Sarah Hall Weaver, Kate Wilkins, Danielle Smith, Elizabeth Muise, Saki Kitahara, and Alena Giesche. Mercedes is a BFA major in the School of Art and Design and a Dance Minor. She designed and created the costumes, and created, directed and performed the dance.
